Because it's so powerful and popular, Facebook is able to turn a simple man into a “celebrity” overnight. This is exactly what happened in Calcutta, India after two brothers created a Facebook game and made it available through the social networking website.

Scrabulous is an online version of the famous Scrabble game which is very popular in every corner of the world. According to BBC News, the game has attracted no less than 300,000 players every day since its official launch, while 40,000 different players are connecting to Scrabulous through the non-Facebook website.

"The game has been very well received at Facebook. A Facebook team member said it is a favourite at their office. We are humbled by this recognition." Said the developers.

There are several well-developed applications on Facebook and, thanks to the popularity of the social networking service, they become famous in seconds. The social network service is said to have approximately 69 million users in January 2008, with almost 250,000 users registering for new accounts every day.

According to the Wikipedia entry, Facebook recorded revenues of $150 million last year but more impressive are expected this year.

Doesn't say if they've made any money from this...:harts:
