What an interesting quote in one of the resources - "Email marketing generates an average return of $51.45 for every dollar spent in 2006." Yes, investing early is a step into the direction of success. Email marketing is a very strong strategy. Many people buy and sell expensive products through emails. I think the key here is to send out emails that don't look like spam. So, the emails not be made to look like spam. Ideally, it's good to send an email to a previous customer while asking for more business.

For any serious email marketer there are steps they take to ensure deliverability. It's a bit tough right now for people to break into with all the changes hotmail and yahoo have made, people are burning through IP's like no tomorrow. It's time to ditch the old "cowboy" method. IP's need to be warmed up over a few months with then end goal being getting whitelisted with the service providers. Once whitelisted you are golden, you will hit the inbox over 90% of the time and will be set up to make huge returns with a push of the send button :).

For anyone thinking about getting into email marketing I strongly advise first to read up on Can-Spam and find out what ESP's are looking for, otherwise you'll end up spending more than you will make!

Cheers
