What programs do you use to design sitemaps? I have used viso in the past but am sure there are better alternatives out there.

There is an online I use, its quite good and collects detail information. You can also use the one provide by Google via your webmaster tool.

The best sitemap you can use is the sitemap on your actual website. This helps not only your users but also proper interlinking strategy to boost your inner pages and ensure they are indexed/cfrawled properly, which will boost your index and your SERPS. An XML sitemap is unecessary to submit to G because if your onpage stuff isn't setup they won't index all those pages as unique anyway.
