Ranking for purchased website

Just wanted to share this. I bought another website from someone which currently ranked 6 for a certain keyword in Google. A very competitive keyword. After doing some SEO work to improve the site, Google took me to 13 on the refresh, but I was patient and let Google do it's thing for a week and I now find myself ranked 5 for that keyword.

Thread title changed - this has nothing to do with the "Google dance", which in fact no longer exists.

I take it you purchased the whole site and retained the same content, not just an expired domain?

The domain wasn't expired, it was a business acquisition. Thanks for the clarification on "the dance." I adjusted the content and optimized some pages. If you use micro niche finder, the keyword is a 1500+ SOC keyword. I am now number 3 today.
