Pop traffic : popping a " big banner page" before the actual LP

Hello Attila and thanks for this amazing opportunity to get a few tips.

I read on your blog (in a comment) that you sometime don't pop the "real lander", but just a giant banner (which obviously is included in a page but is different from the "real" lander).

1) Why are you doing this ?

2) And how does this intermediary page "looks" ?

it's a banner inside a lander, which they can then click - we do this for many reasons; on PPV traffic it helps filter the user to make sure their mind knows whats coming up next; theory is if they click they want to see more related stuff - and #2, to get rid of bots

Oh I see, thanks a lot.

So basically you have page1 (banner) and page2 (e.g. survey/leadgen/etc) and if the CTR is very low for a placement for page1 that's a sign of bots.

Correct ?

I guess it doesn't help getting rid of Spy bots ? (which do click).

Yes correct,
you won't believe how many bots there are that just come to your landing page to click the banner then don't go anywhere else... tons... a simple imacros script can do this..
