Making a banner

I know that this is probubly as basic as you can get but,I'm hoping putting it here in the newbie thread wont bring to many laughs or silly comments lol.... I want to create a banner for my blog,can anyone point me in the right direction to create banners for a newbie,I have a very bad learning disability so it has to be pretty step by step as well as free or very cheap in cost.

Another option is to hire someone to do it. There are places where you can get a custom banner for $5 or $10. Being a graphic designer for so many years, I hesitate to even tell you that, because I've always said you get what you pay for. But I realize that sometimes the budget is just too tight to afford a professional designer.

Our graphic department here at Guppy would suggest visiting the following site for tutorials on creating banners. It's great for beginners and there are tabs at the top where you can find great tips under Photoshop and Flash.
