This definitely affiliate related so I split it from the previous post, in case the previous post needed to be moved to a different forum.
We have traffic, we have sign-ups, but since we just started and our trial period is 2 weeks, I wouldn't really expect much. However, I want to make any necessary tweaks to the software based on the first few weeks of feedback before I look for a wide affiliate program. That said, I have at least a couple of colleagues (who have been monitoring our development) interested in becoming an affiliate. My solution is to simply create a discount code. This will be easy to track against paying custoemrs and the originator, and I can easily track rough metrics like entered site, signed up for trial period, and amount paid.
My question is this: Has anyone heard of horror stories of companies launching an affiliate program piecemeal like this? I'm just one of those guys that feels like if I'm not doing everything I can every day to market it, I'm losing money.
