Directory and Gambling Bids -- your advise?

Hi all,

on my bidding directories as of today, I refunded more money then the money I kept.

I am rejecting the bids from Gambling sites and refunding the full amount.

Now I have 4 bids with $26.00 in it, about to refund the money.

Like to get your Advise on what others are doing with Gambling links?

Is that best to Reject and Refund or add the Gambling links to your directory?

What would be the long term effect if you keep Gambling links?

Thanks

I have the same dialema as you, I look forward to reading suggestion offered by experienced people in this matter.

I refund them usually. However, it does depend on your policies (I got caught out after one of the gambling sites got back to me post refund and said "You never said anything about no gambling sites!").

Also, how would you define gambling? If say it's those Casino spammy sites then I'd refuse. But say if William Hill came upto me and offered me £x,xxx to advertise. Would I refuse then?

You need to weigh up whether it's of value to your readers, and if so, accept it. If you don't, well it's only $23.

I don't approve any free gambling sites at my Web Directory unless they purchase a featured listing of £29.99 :)

I have seen other directories do the same thing. In regards to gambling sites on bidding directories, I think I approved one.

If someone adds a gambling site to your bidding directory and they have paid enough for the site to appear on the first page, then reject and refund. As long as the site does not appear on the top 5/10 on the homepage, then it should be ok

I guess this would be a good thread for me, as I'm going to launch a very, well-promoted bidding directory soon, but would like to get some advice when it comes to these matters, especially gambling/casino links.

I've seen these kind of web sites tend to bid high on bidding directories; so would it be good to allow them to have listings on your web directory or not?

I accept them on bidding directories. ONLY if they do not infest the site. By this I mean I pick and choose simply because I can.

More than 2 gambling sites on the hompage - NO and Never. Although do allow sites on homepage as long as not in the top five out of ten.

Gambling site in top position throughout the site - NO and NEVER will allow it.

When they bid depending on the status of the site that is when I'll make the decision.

For me its very very tempting to accept their link, they pay good money. I have not problem accepting their link, its not against my TOS, its just that i do not want them taking over the directory like they have done at one of my bidding directory, they completely outbid all other non gambling sites, now I gave the non gambling sites "bonus" bid so that some of them will get back to the homepage

I see your point, I just have one more question, do you guys list these kind of web sites on your regular web directories (non-bidding, in this case)?

Of course - as Temi stated they pay good money and on UK One we have a gambling category with sub categories.

I see, however the majority of bidding web directories seem to reject any bids made by casino/gambling links, somehow I support this idea but I guess their bids are quite tempting, I've seen casino/gamblings bids made for a huge amount.

I see that many of you do -- vicdigi made an interesting input, about limiting these kind of listings to max 2 on the homepage, that would be interesting and quite a good idea.

What's your view on this?
