Gold As a Newbie, What Stops You From Getting Started

Hi, Christopher. I'm not TJ but thought I'd pop in here. :)

First of all, many people read about rich affiliates who tout how easy it is to get there, which can make them feel like they're not doing things right if it doesn't work that way for them. It isn't easy, as you're finding out but it can be hard to shake that impossible ideal. Learn, take action, change course when you need to and you will start to see money come in.

Do not make any plans but always jump into AM work with what I feel I should start with. Kind of stupid?

Not stupid, you just need some information. I leave that part to our planning guru, @T J Tutor

Now the focus is on interacting in forums. But I seem to be taking too long to learn the do and don'ts of forum membership.

Okay, I don't know what you're promoting but are you sure you're reaching your target audience? Do they hang out on Quora and forums? Maybe they do, I don't know but be as sure as you can that you're engaging where your potential buyers hang out.

Also, make use of your forum signature here. You won't have a live link unless you have an upgraded account but you can mention your company/product, put a raw link that members can copy/paste into a browser.

Hope that helps a little.

Hi all

I am new to affiliate marketing and have just read your wiki pages.

you said to start using AdCombo, but if you click on the link, they no longer exist.

can you recommend another affiliate program that’s considers newbies like me, or is it now a case of biting the bullet and be honest, get an identity, etc?

I welcome any advice

Hi Anastasia,

If you visit AdCombo's resource page (sorry but the system won't let me list links), the green Visit website button to the right of the tabs (Overview, updates, etc) redirects to a domain holding page

The button alongside Website is fine and goes straight to the website

The link in the Wiki is also redirecting to a domain holding page

I hope this helps. :)

Hey,
I want to start the affiliate marketing. I don't have any blog or website already and will build one for the specific niche I want to start with. As I don't have any particular interest in any specific niche and a digital marketing executive in a software company so want to start with this niche. After watching so much of videos and reading different blogs I got an idea on how to start but have some doubts, I am new and will build new website it won't be having much pages, for example I select a product that I want to promote I will only create one or two pages for that product so will it create any problem as my site is new and there will not be much content on that.

To be honest, your message is a bit garbled and doesn't make sense. I don't see the point to your message. Also, it is the exact same thing you posted in your introductions thread.

Use this forum as a mentor. It's full of members at every level of experience which makes for many balanced perspectives for a Newbie to learn from. Take the time to read through the forums here and see for yourself that the Newbies achieving success have actually dedicated themselves to success in this industry and reaping the rewards by following the advice of fellow AffiliateFix members, being dedicated to success, putting the time in, and making the necessary investments. You cannot shortcut the learning curve. It goes slower for some and it goes faster for others. Everyone has their own intellectual absorption rates, skill development pace, commitment level, and budgets.

You are a FIX'er now and that means you have the world at your feet with IM. Here are a few suggestions:

Read and learn through extensive reading in this community. Select one vertical. one tracker, and one traffic source. Learn from your fellow members here to master each one of them (a couple of months). Then you can expand and replicate your successes.

As a Newbie, you need to read, study, invest, and implement. Perseverance, dedication, and taking action are the cornerstones of the success you will obtain.

Read
Read through the various areas of the forum to learn about the types of marketing available for your new business. Make a list of all the types of marketing and take some notes along the way. Then determine which area of marketing with which you will start your journey.

Do this to select an area of marketing to start, as well, do this to select a tracker, a traffic source, and to select a vertical.

Then read up on the affiliate networks and select two to begin with that will serve your needs and the types of offers you would like to promote. Put your application in and they will call you for an interview. Be professional and be prepared to answer some questions about how you will promote offers, do you have a website, are you a Newbie, etc. Please note, if you join the Dojo, we have a thread there that can offer assistance in getting accepted to some of the networks.

Study
Now that you have selected a basis to begin, read all of the threads in this forum that relate to your initial selections so that you have a rudimentary understanding of their features and benefits.

Invest
You will require some investment. A VPS server, domains, traffic, landing pages, etc. You will need a budget for daily, weekly, and monthly expenses. This will change over time and you will need to update it often so that you know exactly what your costs and earnings are.

Implement
This is where it all starts to earn. You must now begin to implement what you have established as your foundation for your business.

Here is some advice and guidance that will help you establish your initial goals:

Make sure you complete the following first.

Every business needs:

1. a plan
2. a schedule for research, learning, and execution
3. a budget.

Remember to read through our WIKI and get to know the basics as well as some of the buzz words in the industry.

I also recommend reading the following thread:

As a Newbie, What Stops You From Getting Started

Here is a set of immediate goals:

1. Get a VPS
2. Select a vertical
3. Select a tracker
4. Select a couple of networks and get your approval
5. Select a traffic source
6. Create a schedule for researching, learning (training), and working. This is a business, treat it as such!
7. Create a budget for every expense (daily, weekly, monthly)
8. Be very active in this forum by researching, asking questions, helping others when you are able.

Check out the new enhanced membership option here as it is full of great tools and features.

Remember This! : Nothing has to be perfect before you start. Read & study, but invest and implement at the same time. You cannot learn all of it from reading and studying. A great deal of your learning comes from implementing!

Good Luck!

Hi there! My main obsticle is a psychological one. I came in advertising from totally different sphere and was always (and still) thinking that i would never be a good professional, its too late to start smth new...That thoughts really create problems with the self-development

Hi Uniqodd,

You are not alone in this. This is an issue world wide in every profession. There are generally two groups in the work force. Those that work for themselves, creating their own business(s), and those that work for someone else. In both of these two categories the majority of people reflect on the feelings and thoughts you are having. It is a form of self doubt that grows and manifests into fear of loss. Most get past it, those that do not become crippled by it.

You are venturing into entrepreneurship when you enter our industry and as an entrepreneur you are required to adopt very specific mindsets. Among them:

  1. Never give up!
  2. Take action daily!
  3. Be a student of the trade forever. This industry is young and ever changing, adapt to change daily and prepare for changes going forward. I've been in this business for over 20 years and I am still learning and always changing.
  4. Believe this is a long term effort. You are building a business that will bring you the successes and freedoms you seek.
  5. Stay away from shiny objects.
  6. Never allow the negativity of others to influence your own mindset.
  7. Plan on more than a 40 hour week when starting a new business.
  8. Knowing this is a data driven business.
  9. Plan on investing in your new business.
  10. Never see the lack of earnings from an effort as a loss, but rather the expense of gathering data.
There is so much more, but this gives you the basic tenants to adopt when getting started.

If you can negotiate high sachool with a modecum of success, then with dedication and investment, you can make this business work for you!

Hi! Thanks for this post even it wasn't for me. I was about writing as well about uncertainty that I feel but have read yours and after reading I got more confidence and now don't want to write about my difficulties-)

Good organization is the single biggest reason that I have a successful day/week/month/year/life

Bad organization
is the single biggest reason that I have an unsuccessful day/week/month/year/life

I will dividing these into 2 parts:

"What makes Me stop from getting my First step?"
- Scary Imagination, and knowledge overdosed.

"What makes Me WANT TO STAY on the Affiliate Marketing?"
- Because i like the challenge, imagine You can 'crack' the code, and getting the GOALS!

For Me, the process itself is quite interesting than the Profits itself. Profits is like a Bonus, experience by doing something? It's priceless. :)

If I could pick one thing that held me back it would be self-discipline.
Being self-employed needs a huge amount of self-discipline, more so in the beginning when the money isn't coming in.
You gotta be stubborn as an ox, believe in yourself, and just keep going at it.

The biggest thing that's holding me back from purchasing a domain and starting is that I want to be profitable but I also want to be authentic. I feel like in order for me to be authentic and do product reviews, I actually have to purchase the product and give hands on reviews. I look at others within my possibly chosen niche giving unboxing reviews on YouTube, I can't compete with that nor can I afford that. My research based reviews where I look at 1 star 3 star 5 star reviews and pretend I know what I am talking about aren't going to cut it in my opinion. It's an insecurity/integrity problem.
