Amazon to Drop NC Affiliates if Advertising Tax Passes

The latest development in the advertising tax front is not good news at all. North Carolina is so close to enacting the anti-affiliate sales tax that Amazon just sent notice to all NC affiliates letting them know that if the law is passed Amazon associates in the state will be dropped immediately.

"We regret to inform you that the North Carolina state legislature (the General Assembly) appears ready to enact an unconstitutional tax collection scheme that would leave Amazon.com little choice but to end its relationships with North Carolina-based Associates. You are receiving this e-mail because our records indicate that you are an Amazon Associate and resident of North Carolina."

It goes on to say this is not a termination yet, they are just letting affiliates know in advance because it looks imminent.

If this bill passes other states will follow and if Amazon drops affiliates other merchants will follow. We?ve been doing a good job of beating back the taxes in other states, I sincerely hope NC ends up voting this down. NC affiliates and merchants, you need to contact your state representatives NOW!
