I am currently running a few forums and every single one of them has terrible click through rates. The CTRs are all something like 0.03%. I have tried all sorts of ad placements but none of them have resulted in more clicks. Is this because I have the same people visiting over and over again?
What experiences have you had about this subject? Have you noticed an increase in search engine rankings for your websites after you have gotten a lot of social media back links? Can google even index stuff that's on facebook?
Have any of you experimented with implementing a revenue sharing scheme for your forum users? How have they responded? What proportion of them participated? Did that incentivize them to start posting more or perhaps promoting your forum more?
I happen to run a couple of forums and I've always had difficulties deciding who to invite to participate in the forum's maintenance as a moderator. I usually go with very active users who have no history of going berserk on other forum members, posting illegal stuff or trolling.
Personally, I prefer to post something on each of my blogs every single day. Yes, it's really tedious, but I think it shows the search engines you're serious about maintaining your website and this pays dividends in the form of higher rankings and more visitors from Google, Yahoo, etc...
