After reading some posts on here, I'm debating whether I should start looking elsewhere to monitize my sites also, I'm making next to nothing right now...
I'm interested to hear if that guy ever responded to you, and if so, did you use him?
I think I need some SEO work done... hard to find somone reliable though...
SMF is pretty good, from what I've seen so far. I've been using it for the past few weeks and it seems relatively easy to install mods (as long as you use the default theme) and a lot safer than phpbb.
I like the site, I would recommend a few things though.
1. Change the theme from the default SMF theme
2. Hide any forums that don't have posts until they do have posts
3. Create a few users and fill up any empty forums
You should be good to go from there...
Be aggressive. I still don't know how to promote a forum properly, but all I do know is that you have to keep going on, and on and on... As long as you enjoy the subject matter, you'll be ok if you put the effort in.
Vb seems the most secure. Phpbb2 was a pain, so I got rid of my spam ridden site. I am starting to use SMF, but only in the last few weeks, so I'll get back to you about them...
I think that paying for posts is dodgy. From my experiences, the people you get make the same types of posts, no matter what site they are on. What you are looking for is people that want to be on your site. But then again, if you are just starting out, or if your jump starting a dead site, I...
Try doing a google search for Boonex Dolphin. Eventhough, lately they have had security issues, as long as you keep everything up to date, it's cheap and free. Better than Php Izabi IMHO...
