Im a new fan of Notepad++. I had been a user of PSPad but a few quirks like loosing £ sometimes and missing } every now and then in a file which had been fine for ages made me switch.
Self taught PHP and a little .net via books and google.
Ive created some real munters of apps before which is why I tend to stick to infrastucture and employ someone to do 95% of my programing work
I prefer PHP as that was what I learned first and know the most of.
ASP and .net are prefered in large business simply due to the support model. You dont get sacked for using an MS product where as using open source is not understood by non IT directors so can be constude as a risk...
When Im buying I dont mind paying a year up front if the space is discounted and the site is well established but I would always have a stipulation that if the site sold of changed my ad would be in the same place for the full term or a partial refund.
I dont know how enforceable it is but it...
Typolight (.org)
Anyone use it?
Ive started to get my guys to use it for clients as it is very good for doing any layout. You are very free to put the page as you want easily.
Its also good to lock the editing down for the end user.
Before finding this we were going to write our own but this...
Personal preference is www but choose one, be consistent and redirect the other.
That way it doesnt matter as you get both sets of people (with and without www) and the linking is all counted for one domain so you get the best benefit.
After some use I found it quite good for sold adds and adding Adsense to spots but if you have your own adds (like affiliate adds) its quite a faff getting it sorted.
Ive gone back to OpenX...
Because they will often refer customers on to you if they cant help (not something they do or no capacity to do a job) if you have shown you know what you are doing.
There is only one thing worse than not being able to do something for a regular customer, and thats suggesting them to use someone...
I cant speak for all industries but in IT helping the competition can come back to help you out. Obviously giving away your method of getting the best clients wont be productive but if they are stuck and you help them out of a hole it often brings revenue back, eventually.
SMF used to be the free BB of my choosing but now I would tend to go for MyBB. Just seems a lot more trouble free.
But ofcourse vB is better if your budget can go for it.
For the sake of a couple of quid I would always recommend getting a provider with decent support rather than the outright cheapest.
Register1.net are good for occasional domains and enom for reselling domains.
Indeed:
google.com/admanager
After a bit more playing it does seem good for selling ads and adsense but it doesnt make it easy for your own adds to be placed.
