Yes, exactly, Pixabay's selection is good but I think they know which images to push into iStock ads and which to giveaway free
It's a clever marketing model

i have never bought images, i always use google images and i take and edit using photoshop

I never bought any stock images, but as much as I know, pexels and pixabay are the best. I’m a professional photographer, and I know everything when it comes to photos. The coolest experience was when I still was an amateur photographer. I had a shitty camera that barely worked, and the only thing that saved me at the time was picture upscaler. This application increased the size and quality of the pictures. To be honest, I don’t know if I would’ve made it that far without it. That is indeed the best application for anyone who wants to take amazing pictures but doesn’t have the equipment.

The ones I used have moved to a monthly subscription. If you use many stock images it's OK I suppose.

Web design and photography are really two different animals.

I have been doing image manipulation the past weeks and using imagemagick at the command line (cli)
mainly making .webp for fast loading times An image format for the Web | WebP | Google Developers
Quality is so-so but load times and speed are what matters in web development and page design --not so much artsy.
Acceptable or better appearance and context ...

I’ve bought stock images a few times for personal projects, and I’ve used Alamy, Getty, and iStock as well. They’re all pretty solid, but it really depends on what you're looking for. For something more affordable, I’ve had good luck with smaller sites like Unsplash and Pexels, which have free high-quality options.

I assume you meant 2025.

Unsplash has always had beautiful photos that do not require accreditation. Nice that they're bringing on more for commercial use, I didn't know that, haven't been on there in quite a while.
