What is RSS?

I am not sure what RSS means? I know it's pretty common and is used widely.

If someone could explain to me what it means, it would be extremely helpful

Gah! Sorry for posting this thread without browsing the forum for the question properly.

Anyways, the article kinda helped me and the other thread helped me too! I still haven't been able to completely understand the concept behind it but I think I'll learn after Googling a bit and reading some articles.
