What are you traffic targeting secrets?

How do you target your traffic for a better ROI? Do you have any special secrects to get the best audience for the offer?

First Cut—sources:

• site# 19238: You can't really target obfuscated sources like most DSP traffic is.
• Domain placements: You can look at the domain and see if its content is related somehow to your offer.
• Social Media ads: Here they are using some affinity attribute to sort out cohort segments to advertise to. Whether that data is really valid can be debatable.

The secret is acquiring list of buyers (your owned lists) that is not a cheap process in CPA or for that matter, in any enterprise.

I think, a lot of people focus too much on finding a magic traffic source, but the real advantage comes from having your own data and knowing who actually converts. I usually look less at big targeting options and more at small signals: placement quality, user behavior, conversion patterns, and what happens after the click. The best audiences are often built from testing and collecting data, not just picking interests or categories.
