Using Google Adwords to advertise a web directory

Hi

I have noticed directoy owners using Google Adwords to advertise their directories. Is this a good idea or a waste of money? Has anyone tried this?

Thanks

I don't think Adwords or any other PPC program will work for the directory.

Unless you are charging high price for submission you'll spend much more money on clicks than making profit.

Properly run Adwords compain may be a great tool for the websites selling expensive products - one sale can pay for a year of advertising.

For directories there are not many keywords to bring you highly targeted visitors who will be a good candidate for submission. And those few keywords most likely will be expansive to compete for...

From the general statistics 1-2% of targeted visitors actually convert to customers.
If keyword cost you lets say $0.50 per click - can you afford to pay $50 to get one paid submission?
