Like most of you, I am signed up with ClickBank and paydot, but there are many more opportunities out there. Many times when I am surfing around, I bump into companies that indicate that they have an affiliate program. Is there a directory or something that one can investigate to learn what companies are offering affiliate programs directly?

Sure there are lots of directories, but many of them are not kept up to date.
A couple of the best are Associate Programs Affiliate Directory
and AffiliateTip Affiliate Tip Affiliate Program Directory
The 5 Star directory is much smaller because I only list 5 Star programs I represent which are
guaranteed to be honest, pay on time and have high commissions. 5 Star Affiliate Directory
One of the best and easiest ways to find programs though is through a network. Just like you find info products at Clickbank, you can join ShareResults, CJ or Shareasale to easily search for the type of products you want to promote. Most networks have a way to see EPC which tells you if other affiliates are actually making any money with the program.
