Submitting To Directories, Good Or Bad

Recently I have heard bad things about submitting to directories, is this because of the fact that directories are popping up everywhere and they are just crap directories?

Any input would be appreciated.

Google treats directories are like any other site on the internet. Some are good and some are crap. If you can find good quality directories then links from them will help your site. Links from bad directories won't hurt, but won't help either. Take some time and find quality directories in your niche to start with and you'll notice a difference. Once you've gone through your niche branch out to the general directories.
