Is it important to have a landing page before your affiliate link on native? From what I read you can get away with a lot more on taboola or outbrain than on facebook. Or is it just a thing necessary for getting better conversions?

Your Landing Page (or pre lander) is a part of a funnel designed to send qualified referrals that have a reasonable chance of a conversion.

  1. (pre) Landing pages will filter out the inevitable bots if it's designed correctly.
  2. (pre) Landing pages filter out the lookers that are not interested in the offer as you explain and (attempt) to pre-sell it.

Choosing between direct linking or landing pages depends a lot on the strategy you'll be using.

In general, using landing pages tends to be better for a number of reasons (e.g. positioning the offer for your audience, cooking people for remarketing, dealing with bot traffic, etc), but there can be exceptions.

That's for most 2nd tier ad platforms, but for Facebook specifically landing pages are almost always mandatory. They help a lot with the marketing aspect, too, but they're required to avoid having your accounts banned. Unless you're doing grey/black hat, of course, but that's been getting really hard lately and, personally, it's not something I recommend.
