Has anyone checked out the <a href="http://www.5staraffiliateprograms.com/free-magazines.html#MarketingWidget">Marketing Widget</a> yet?
I was just playing with wizard to set one up and it's pretty cool.

You can choose different sizes, skin colors etc. but the really great part is you can select the industry you want the widget to feature. So if you have a tech blog, set it to one of the computer or IT categories or if you have sales and marketing, small business, healthcare traffic or whatever, set it to show magazines those visitors would be interested in.

Let me know if you have any questions.

Thanks for the post, Linda!

I love RevResponse, but I'm biased since I help manage the program. ;)

Affiliate marketeers create websites/landing pages around offers, not the other way around.
Too much risk to spend time and energy for nothing if i still don't get accepted. Especially for a niche affiliate opportunity like this.

Too bad though...

Edwin

Hi Edwin,

Sorry you were declined. I think it was good they told you why and offered the option to explain and get a 2nd look. Most places just decline you without explaining why. The more targeted the offer the more strict affiliate managers sometimes need to be to assure affiliates have targeted traffic.

They do realize however that sometimes affiliates have new sites that aren't quite finished or have plans to build a site in that niche, so if you contact them and explain how you would drive traffic to their offers I'm sure they would reconsider.

I just thought of a great analogy (But sometimes my Linda analogies get me in trouble  ) that may help affiliates understand what it's like to be an affiliate manager - evaluating hundreds or thousands of affiliate apps a day - many fraudulent, many just nowhere close to a fit. Anyway not a post for this thread, but maybe I'll try to write it some day.

Suffice it to say, many times a good affiliate will get declined in the process, but the AM does not know you and your intentions, they have to go on what they see. So if you have a good plan and a good fit that was not apparent by looking at your site, just contact them about it. I'm sure they'd be happy to listen.

Hi Edwin,

Sorry you were declined. I think it was good they told you why and offered the option to explain and get a 2nd look. Most places just decline you without explaining why. The more targeted the offer the more strict affiliate managers sometimes need to be to assure affiliates have targeted traffic.

A straight forward explanation is certainly a plus! And i appreciate that.
But in order to assure your future affiliates have targeted traffic and to require a fully functional website beforehand is leaving opportunity on the table.

Now i am not saying i will immediately start throwing tons of money at it and drive insane amounts of traffic, but there are affiliates out there that can easily branch out to big advertising campaigns and to drive targeted traffic to their offers.

And here is the kicker, they would either divert traffic directly to the advertiser or use a landing page in between. No fully functional website needed for that.

There are three types of affiliates, one type (Type one) that has a website and get notice of a program/offer that they can promote on their website to earn some extra revenue.

------------------------------------------------------------------------

And you have affiliates (Type two) that create a website for the money, using PPC strategies and SEO and then explore the angles to drive and maintain the traffic to their websites. And if they're successful with it, put more time into it to make it last...or move on.

------------------------------------------------------------------------

Then you have affiliates (Type three) that are both, they have a website around a topic that they like, that was initially started not for the money but because they wanted to build something to share what they want to share, meet new people, etc.

And then think to maintain and grow their traffic or development ideas they need to attract some extra revenue, and their current audience compliments a certain program perfectly.

Seeing they can make revenue online they also explore to other ventures, and then create websites around offers, affiliate programs.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------

Me, I like to create websites around offers so if the offer is new for me, then i don't have a website to present, and maybe i won't even make a website in some cases and just drive traffic directly to the advertiser.

In the case of RevResponse's program i do want to make a website because i got a great domain!
And i would have something i could sell later on.

As an affiliate manager it would be best to contact the applicant and discuss things further instead of just outright rejecting an application.

2 cents Linda :)

I'll reply to the rejection email and hopefully i can still join the program after reconsideration.
