Rep and attitude

Hi

I have seen senior members with very high rep points on other forums and they treat the juniors like crap.

The senior forget that they were once juniors and asked simple questions.

I would never look down at no one, no matter how knowlegable I became so don't see why others should.

What are your thoughts about this?

I agree with you, it is very bad to look down on others, no matter what the situation is.

Imran, you think about things very similarly as I do, but this is only a theory. In the practice sometimes, on bad days it happens with me as well sadly, mostly overbearing:(

I can't look down on people I'm too short ;)

I always find that its difficult coming into some forums and asking simple questions - some places eg wordpress forums make you feel so stupid for asking simple things even if you've been googling for hours!

I think people think they can be mean just because they don't ever have to speak to someone again.

WordPress › Support » Links and Archives Pages wont display!?

Just an example - that guy made me SO mad!! grr

That's the beauty of our community (at least I think so...) no matter how many posts or green bubbles you have - everyone is treated with respect.

Even obvious spammers are given fair chance to become contributing members...

I have gone to web forums as a noob, made a post with authority, and some gimp with a load of bubbles has ripped into me asking me who the hell I think I am coming on and posting like some sort of expert (I incurred his wrath as I pointed out he was wrong). :D

the fact was that he WAS wrong and WAS giving out incorrect advice. All I did was correct him. I sent him a PM to explain who i was what I do showed his some rankings for nice easy words like 'sex toys' bad credit mortgage' etc all the easy stuff :D

Ya know he told be to F**K off and not try to be a smartarse ? So I made less than 10 posts there and he continued to be a large fish in his small pond and gave out information to people that would get them banned. Nice eh :D

Its stupid that you have to have a lot of posts on a forum to give out advice - its not like you've been a member of a forum the entire time you've been becoming an expert in your field!

it tells a lot about a person who is doing that.

all people start with postcount zero.
and i always try to stay polite.

My views and oppions upon this topic is straight foward.
To have a high rep, means people like you for who you are, and if you have a high rep, you should initiate and help those who look up to you. Withold your position with pride or face the consiquenses for rude behavior, and start all over again until you see the point in getting the recognision is all about.

Someone posted this on my rugby forum this week, and it is one of the truest things I have ever read. We were talking about committeemen in rugby clubs. he said " Give a small man (small as in mental atttitude not physical size) power, and you will soon see just how small he is".

MAN that is true.
