OK, so now that I have a plan to drive lots of traffic to my site with my video pet contest :) I want to set up an opt in page so that I can start building an email list.

I am looking for help in knowing how to do that!

My idea is that I have a box that they can click on to receive my newsletter which will contain coupons, new reviews, etc. Do I need to entice the reader with a free report or something like that?

Do I need to use an autoresponder program? If so, are these expensive?

Thanks for any advice you can give...I am early in the research phase of this venture so far!

My guess is in your market, just offering a newsletter may be enough to get signups. (Just a guess)

2 options to check out for emailing:

Aweber if you want an autoresponder. Lots of affiliates use this option.
Not sure on the price.

iContact is what I use for my newsletter and for list management (opt in forms, etc). It's super reasonable and dependable.

I use Aweber too. You pay $19 a month (first month is $1) for up to 500 subscribers. Between 500 and 2,500, there's an additional $10 per month, for a total of $29. It goes up in increments from there. So you don't pay more until you have more subscribers, at which point you will probably be able to afford each jump in price.

Linda's right - you probably wouldn't have to give a free report (or maybe a valuable coupon), but it wouldn't hurt to give out some kind of incentive to motivate any fence-sitters.
