One what scale of importance do you all place W3C validation on your website's
markup? Now I know that validation is not necessary to have a successful web
presence, but it still is valuable for accessibility - and even Google's webmaster
guidlines recommend you follow the standards.

So do you all code to standards? Why or why not?

I know a guy from another forum and his obsession with W3C is almost like yours...

Nowadays many webmasters use one script or another to power their sites. Even though you can create 100% valid layout, you have no control over how script or some plugin will parse the content.
Also there are thousands of little code snippets can be found on the web that can be useful on your site but not validate to certain Doctype.

So... Do I code to standards? - yes.
Would I kill myself if some little glitch in the script cause my site not to validate - no...

In the end if all my pages can be crawled and indexed - that's all that matters...

I think the only website that I noticed was 100% W3C compliant is Aviva Directory. Having said that, it's not something that is of major concern although always better if it is validated to W3C standards.

They do have a slight error, though it's not a code error. They have a space after " in
a script they link to:
Code:
src=' http:
See that space? Anyway - it's cool that they're standards compliant!!!
