Mass Ping Working or Not?

There are several web sites to provide mass pinging. If they working then why they provide their services for free.

Google and several other robots crawls each site everyday, but there is no specific time when they will crawl that's the reason these ping services exists.
But even I don't know how these services really help in indexing or something else.
