It's that time of year when you cross your fingers and hope you've already done everything you can to optimize all your Holiday marketing campaigns. So what next? Time to start thinking about and working on your campaigns for next year. Hopefully you've already started those campaigns, but if you are looking for some new niche ideas or for ways to maximize what you already have in the works - here are some tools and ideas that may help.

Here are a couple posts I've read recently that outline unique ways of doing keyword research. The 1st deals with determining the commercial intent of a new niche or keyword set. The 2nd talks about utilizing your friends and relatives for niche and keyword research. Below that are recent reviews of 2 keyword tools.

<strong><a href="http://thekeywordacademy.com/what-types-of-keywords-should-i-choose/">What Types of Keywords Should I Choose?</a></strong> "So how do we determine the profitability of a keyword before we decide to use it? I personally use one primary method to determine this ? I look at what advertisers are willing to pay to buy searchers from Google. This isn?t a method that most people use, but it?s REALLY useful. The commercial intent of searchers is baked into the CPC and if you start buying traffic from Google, you?ll agree with me."

<strong><a href="http://www.ppchero.com/building-a-better-keyword-list-one-relative-at-a-time/">Building a Better Keyword List ? One Relative at a Time</a></strong> "Sometimes these questions don?t lead to useful results, but sometimes they can lead to extremely effective general and longtail terms that would not have occurred to me or to the Google Keyword Tool. The point is this: don?t assume you?re always an expert, and don?t ever ignore a potentially useful resource for good keywords."

Tim over at eMonetized recently did a couple of good keyword tool reviews I wanted to share with you.

<strong><a href="http://www.emonetized.com/321/ispionage-keyword-research-tool">The iSpionage Keyword Research Tool Review</a></strong> "<strong>I am NOT encouraging you</strong> to blatantly steal your competitors but reviewing your competition is a great way to generate new ideas and make notes of what they do well, or even better than you, and apply this these tactics to <strong>your own PPC efforts</strong>.

<strong><a href="http://www.emonetized.com/495/spyfu-keyword-research-tool">The SpyFu Keyword Research Tool Review</a></strong> "They aim to give actionable information that search marketers can use now. It?s like the answer to analysis paralysis, instead kicking you into action with insight and direction. Let?s see how they deliver and stack up against their competition."

Another good way is by looking into your log and see what ppl are keying in to get to your site. For an example, I was concentrating on a set of KWs for this one project - got decent traffic and was #3 (on the second page) in my niche. However, when I looked in my logs and saw where I was getting most of my traffic - it was a different set of KWs that people were coming to my site by. I then reoptimized a couple of my pages and I was #2 in my new niche.

So I would add to this - always look into your log and see what ppl are keying in to get to your site.
