Hey there all budding affiliates & possibly some frustrated ones.

In this post I will show you a pretty neat way to protect your affiliate commisions.

Lets get to it!

*What you will need to do this*

* Your Own Domain Name
* Access you your cpanel
* About 5 minutes :cool:

As you may have noticed affiliate links are pretty damn ugly right? :rolleyes:

e.g. this is {one of my) MY affiliate link{s}

{promotion of specific product deleted}

( *58353qk83odxao0fwaej3nfp1m.hop.clickbank.net/) pretty ugly right? would you click on that?

Now what I am about to share with you is really easy to do and just takes a couple of minutes.

1. Take (copy {highlight, right click, copy}) that UGLY affiliate link for whatever product you are promoting.

2. Open up your cpanel interface.

3. Go to sub-domain section

4. Enter the name of the product "dietsolution" {no spaces} in this example

5. Click "create" and cpanel will take a few seconds to create your sub-domain

6. Once your sub-domain is created go to "manage redirection"

7. Paste {right click, paste} in your UGLY affilaite link and hit "save"

8. After a few seconds more your PRETTY new affiliate link will be live at (h t t p://)dietsolution.yourowndomainname(.c o m)

9. Watch your commisions INCREASE!!!

10. Have a beer on me to celebrate!! :p

I hope this helps you.

All the best, Robbie

This is called "link cloaking", and yes it works pretty well. But i think that not all cpanels have this option by default.

On my web host i had first to install link cloaking software because this wasn't on my web host by default.

People prefer to click on a good looking short link, then a long ugly affiliate link.

Thanks! it works.
Go Daddy and many other web hosts have sub-domains and sub-domain forwarding to any (affiliate) link. This method works great for cloaking affiliate links.

Hey this is a really helpful and easy to follow outline, Robgee and I thank you for it.

I just checked my cpanel for Hostgator and it is fully set up for this.

This is very exciting as I always thought that to cloak a link, you has to buy a domain and do a re-direct with that domain. Well, now I realize that I don't have to buy a domain every time I want to do this.

A very exciting revelation,

John

If you don't have access to redirect but have PHP, do the following.

Create a folder on your server, example "dietsolution" {no spaces here too}

create a file named "index.php"

add this code inside the file

%?PHP
Header( "HTTP/1.1 301 Moved Permanently" );
Header( "Location: YOUR-AFFILIATE-LINK" );
?!

(Because the forum limitation, I cannot use the proper code to start and end this piece of PHP code. Please replace the "%" at the beginning by "<" and the "!" at the end by ">")

Replace OUR-AFFILIATE-LINK, by your link

WARNING :
1/ Keep the space between "Location:" and "your link"
2/ ABSOLUTELY NO SPACE OR NEWLINE BEFORE OR AFTER THESE 4 LINES

Upload the file in the folder "dietsolution".

Done, you can access your link with yourowndomainname/dietsolution
