How can we help our affiliates?

Hi Folks,

My name is Jordan and I'm an executive at a mid-size hosting company in WA state. We're expanding our affiliate program and I joined this community in order to research ways that we could help our affiliates succeed.

I have questions like:
- What does an affiliate marketer look for in an affiliate program?
- What kind of commission structures work best for successful affiliates?
-- ie: percentage based commissions offer the affiliate more money, but
-- higher flat-rate commissions seem to attract more affiliates.
- Do successful affiliates utilize custom marketing campaigns?

I have more, but you get the idea. I'll be lurking around from time to time and will probably be posting several questions along the way.
