Ask Me Anything Find a profitable niche where you know you can shine

If you are new to affiliate marketing or have been around for a while but are stuck in the internet wasteland unable to progress, then this article is for you. You’ve probably heard the phrase “the riches are in the niches”, but you are feeling overwhelmed by the number of niches out there and you don’t know how to choose a profitable one. Don’t worry, we've all been there! This post takes you through the niche selection tips you need to get started in your business.

You want to nail the best niche on the market, but you're not even sure what a niche market really is?

We would further define a niche as a small, focused segment of a market. And great niche ideas are the key to the success of any affiliate marketing campaign.

Now that we’ve got this covered, I guess you’re looking to find your profitable niche, but don't know where to start?

Selecting a niche is a long-term decision, but if it’s the wrong one, it’s not a long-term loss. You may fail, but as long as you learn the time is well invested.

Of course, it’s always good to start off on the right foot, so here are some tips and strategies to help you during your niche selection process so you can give yourself the best chance.

1. Clasify various niches: this can help you identify your interests and strengths. After all, it is your job to make your niche choice as profitable as possible.

2. Uncover your unique genius: start by identifying your best skills and expertise. What are you good at? Or, what are you highly motivated to become good at? What have you accomplished? What accolades have you achieved?

3. Choose an audience that you gravitate towards and try to identify the problem your niche has. This involves doing research into the problems, challenges, pain points, aspirations and desires from you niche audience. There are many places online that you can find this information, including niche forums, how-to websites, popular blogs and “trend” websites.

4. Be a consumer, a customer of products within that market and be conscious of your experience and the experience of others in that market as well. Read comments, reviews, participate in forums and discussions and truly get to know who your potential target.

5. Pick out the most profitable problems: not all problems are created equal. Some problems your audience will gladly pay to solve; others will be a hard sell. You need to understand the difference and you can do so using “filters” such as:
  • The number of monthly searches related to a problem
  • The number of searches that imply intent to solve that problem
  • The stability of search terms related to that problem
  • The amount of good-quality, free information on the Web
6. Understand profitable problems deeply: you also need to understand the language they use in describing their ideal solution, so you can echo that language back to them in your ad copy, sales page copy, etc.
  • The next thing to look into is the size of the market you are passionate about – is there demand?
  • Are there established brands, products, books, conferences, trade associations, networking events, etc. that indicate there is a viable market?
  • Are there industry publications that regularly forecast the size of your industry and year over year growth?
  • Is the industry growing or shrinking?
  • How developed is the market ecosystem and who are the players?
  • How competitive is this market? What is the cost of entry and how much more will it cost you to compete?
7. Do something else: Have in mind that in order to succeed online, you have to do something else than everyone is doing. It doesn’t mean you have to invent something brand new, playing in an unknown territory, but you can always have a more intelligent approach and turn something that is working into a better version of itself.

8. Start thinking specialized: Pick a sub-section within that market and then keep going deeper and deeper until you can get to a point where there’s a need and you feel like you can create THE GO-TO RESOURCE or become THE GO-TO PERSON for that topic.

To summarize, the key to finding a profitable niche is identifying the intersection between your niche market’s demand and your skill, then dive in and understand that audience’s problems deeply.

I hope you had a good read and I wish you all the luck :)
