Cashing In On The December 12, 2012 Frenzy!

It's funny how quickly we forget.

Sometimes our clients will ask me what is hot, or will be hot?

We all remember the craziness behind the Y2k (year 2000) phenom.

These things come and go so quickly it seems.

Yet I am sure you can remember the special tables in your local bookstore loaded with books dedicated to that event, the whispering, and many, many predictions.

One of our current advertisers (see them at our site) is cashing in on the big 2012 phenom and making a bundle!

I mean afterall there has already been a hit movie starring John Cusack about 12-12-2012 that is still cashing in.

But there is nothing to prevent you from doing the same.

This is a bit like knowing what the lottery number will be in the next two years.

Here's something that we all know will build more and more momentum in the coming months.

As a smart affiliate marketer you can probably think of a dozen ways to capitalize on this event.

Think about it - and cash in your lottery ticket! (smile).

True but i would rather not scare people into buying my products. As though they would die if they didn't buy it etc.
It's true though a lot of people will be cashing in on this but what about the 2012 Olympics? Wouldn't you rather cash in on that?

Yes, you do make a point.

Unfortunately more people are motivated by pain than pleasure.

But your approach could be more educational in nature.

You could create a Free report on the Mayan culture. Maybe it could go into detail about their belief systems. Could be a good way to promote a psychology product, etc.

If you were promoting a Travel program it might say something like:

"You've Heard About the December 12, 2012 Prediction
Now Discover the Beauty of this Travel Destination"

This might make a nice approach to send CPA travel offers.

Yep. You can make lemonade from lemons.

Just think outside the box a bit.

George's specific suggestion may not be for everyone, but the principle is sound and a good reminder for us! There are lots of things that we know about way in advance that we could plan for with our affiliate businesses, like the Olympic cities, elections, milestones, stuff like that. We can watch the trends and try to get in early on people, places, or things we are certain will explode in popularity in the future. We won't be right every time, but it's worth thinking ahead about these things, and outside the box, as George said.

My initial thought was along similar lines. However, then I remembered the big east coast ice storm of several years ago and the subsequent emergence of items such as T-shirts with the slogan "I survived the great ice storm of 19--". I could see similar humorous products for 12/12/12 having a market.
