Kenster's Rags to Riches is an excellent guide for newbies. It was one of several sources I consulted to get started. It's available here on Affiliatefix so do a search for it.

Kenster's Rags to Riches, and Affiliate Fix's own Newbie411 guide are both awesome resources and you should read them both completely. Are you looking for an overview of the industry or mainly specific guides for success?

K's Newbie411 guide is awesome. I highly recommend you read it. It will give you a basic idea of cpa and how to promote them.
