I use ezinearticles a lot. not real references from my writings. like to know what experiences you had.

Build a site or landing page.

Use articles to build backlinks to that page.

You should submit to more than ezine though. Check out articlemarketer.com - great service and very worth the price.

Submitting only to ezine gets you one backlink.

Submitting through article marketer.com in general gets you between 15 and 40 links.

that is good to know. Why would ezine give one and article submitter give 15? It seems a little weird but will check it out

Because ezinearticles is an article directory.

ArticleMarketer is a service that submits your article to many article directories.

I haven't yet checked it, Rob. but how they do it? Do they use an automatic tool? Do they also let me know which article directories they submit? There are thousands of such, but maybe about 100s or less get indexed and noticed.

No, they don't specifically tell you before hand, but I am telling you it works, so does it really matter?
