Before anyone gets agitated or excited, I saw this offer in Reddit post it was kind of unusual.
When I was done doing some Google ads keyword planner research, mysteriously the post making the offer disappeared, I don't know what happened.
But for now the story is one of how to waste your time, as all this is what I went through:
First of all, I had to reactivate my Google Ads account, it had been a while. That went okay, fully automated not a problem.
As it turns out, the problem is I that I had forgot where the button was on the new Google Ads interface --if you don't use Google Ads everyday ... it's a bit confusing --anyway it's the tool wrench icon in the top right menu just FYI.
So, I go through all these hoops and hurdles and end up with a suggested keyword list. All I was trying to do was to get a rough idea of what the PPC ads were going to cost.
Why was I doing this? The reason I found that post offer particularly interesting is that they were looking for someone to use their website with a g_tag pixel for a CPL type arrangement. They had stipulated wanting to use Google Ads and had indicated that no landing page would be necessary, as you could act (and appear) as if you were the website owner. I thought that was interesting, interesting enough to take the time to see what the keywords bidding would cost and to come up with an estimated advertising cost per lead acquired.
Below is a spreadsheet that I derived from the Google Ads download which was a total mess. It did open with OfficeLibre however. I suppose it would open with Google sheets which I do not use because Google doesn't need to know what I'm doing.
In the end, the only thing I got out of this, was a writing a bash script that would sort my keyword selections from the Master list Google Ads download.
The number of keywords I that would have considered using; or maybe <10% of what Google Ads suggested.
So bottom line, the advertising costs using Google ads I estimated to be $20 to $40 to acquire one free CPL sign up. 1 PPC out of 10 (maybe better 1:4 best?)
The person making the offer indicated that conversion from the free sign up to the AI SaaS to a paid subscription was not the main issue, I found that as a rather strange declaration, but anyway ...
I would not accept anything less than $50 per CPL after seeing how much the PPC cost was going to be. After reaching this conclusion, I can see this was never going to happen. but I did like the idea ...
