Again with iframes you can put the file behind a clean url and depending on the offer it could be the way you want to go, although you do lose the benefit of being able to actually test the page directly. Luke Peerfly has a post on iframing offers on his blog here.

When you say you 'still haven't your first version working yet', do you mean you are having trouble setting it up or you're yet to see it in action properly?
If you follow the steps in the campaign setup tab it should tell you everything you need to know, i.e. where to place code etc. That's also where you setup your traffic sources, networks and campaigns.
Is there any particular part you are stuck on?
It's one of those things where if you're serious about making money it never hurts to make the investment, especially at the price of VPS servers these days (we're talking $10+).
