If you are going to pay then you should use the money for an article submission service. Most will submit your articles with links to at least 100 different article sites including larger ones like goarticles.com for about the same price as one paid article site.
I dont know about classified ad sites like craigslist but I do know that popular FFA sites your ad will only last a few hours before its scrolled off the page so those are pretty much worthless.
With a little work anything is possible they wouldn't have to actually alter your ebook itself but they could make their own clone of it and just insert their links. There is no way to stop it but I wouldnt worry to much about it as most will not go to that much trouble.
You should always focus your attention to your readers and not yourself. Make them feel as if you wrote the page just for them and no one else. Emphisize why exactly it is they need your product and what you offer that the other guys dont. Finally others are correct trying to market IM products...
If your forum is more active and has more visitors than your website then you would probably make money with it but unless it has alot of members (10k+) and well placed ads probably no more than $100 or $200 a month.

If you are having all of your visitors being redirected to your subdomain then why are you wanting all your links to go to your domain......wouldn't you just be sending visitors in a circle?
Yup it all depends on ones intrests and marketing methods. You should try and choose a program with a product that you yourself enjoy. This will make marketing the product easier as you will already have some knowledge of it.
I think the most important thing with any site affiliate or not is go through all page links to make sure they work, view the page in both IE and Firefox to make sure it looks correctly, and go though all signup processes themself to make sure everything works.
