Thanks Minstrel! I did get a note from Google's webmaster central but it was about think sites and not so much about the quality of my links. I was building mini-sites on specific topics. Even though the articles were all unique, quality content I still think Google hates sites with only 5 pages...
Jonathan,
I'll definitely check out Jeffrey's Bay and Clifton beach. Thanks for the specific spots. I have to admit one of the reasons I've wanted to surf South Africa is due to watching "Endless Summer" over and over. I think it's on youtube now. (no this is not some kind of pitch!) It's an...
Queenbearn,
Another affiliate program I use for physical products is Commission Junction. I like it because I can find specific parts like mud tubs at Lowes for gardening kits. It's physical products though.
For other affiliate programs check out these:
linkshare
shareasale
marketleverage...
I've seen a lot more websites require you to like them on Facebook add a Google +1 if you want a specific freebie they mention on their blog. Just from that fact I'm guessing it's more important.
Welcome Beckersurf!
It's funny you mention surfing in South Africa. I had a friend who went there once on a cheap flight just to surf over a long weekend. How's the surfing out there for beginners? I've been dreaming of visiting South Africa for far too many years. It's probably about time I...
Bigcat,
I haven't done it yet but I had the inspiration a few days ago to start interviewing the owners of a couple of blogs I like then we can both post the interview to our blog. I don't know how effective it will be in driving traffic to my blog but it sounds like a fun way to build new...
jmk909er,
Perhaps it's just the banner ads you're using. I use banner ads on my site but I have to agree that I get more clicks through emails I send out than through my banners. But to be honest, my blog is new and not getting much traffic.
Darkavenger:
I'd agree that Facebook pages can have more pull than traditional websites. My sister recently bought a table and chairs that was hand painted from a local business. I spoke with the owner and they get all their leads just from a fan page on Facebook. No website at all.
Minstrel,
Do you think it's possible to also add new links to diversify your backlinking and help with this issue? It seems it's better to just keep going and try to get quality links (i.e. real referrals from others in your field or interested users) instead of worrying about grey hat links...
Clickbank is easy to use which is a nice perk but not always easy to attract affiliates with. I've worked with people who thought they'd get instant affiliates once they posted to Clickbank. That's only true if you've sold enough products to make it to the first page and your commission is...
Joseph,
Challenge accepted! In all honesty, I think of quitting all the time. It's my MO. In some instances I agree with you that you may have the wrong product or strategy. But what if it's not the product, what if it's you? The more I dive into working online the more I find the latter to...
Couldn't agree more Joseph. I think it's nice to add "don't quit" as well. I know I've started many affiliate websites and even though it's a hurdle to get started it's just as bad to keep going when you're not seeing the results you want. My guess is you made it through that stage. Thanks again...
Debbie:
I'm new to the affiliate game as well and I've been doing both the traditional blogging route, like Charles, and I've started the capture page/list building route like you mentioned above. Aren't they both somewhat the same? With list building you still have to send regular content...
