i'm sure there's a law in the US which allows businesses to email someone who has purchased one of their products legally for the next 2 years.. someone who knows this law.. feel free to correct me though.

I think you could be wasting your time with these high placement directories, I wouldn't worry what site explorer thinks, it's what google thinks thats important.

when it comes to ROI, or well return on your time invested, the return is normally pretty slim unless you are the first commentor.

You could have 100,000 links and it wouldn't matter if they're spammy links from blog networks or link farms.
It depends what your doing.
You can pretty much apply it to anything.

For traffic, I don't think it's that great, you'll mostly find that your articles are viewed by other people in your niche.
Although for links they're ok, but when your article is created it has 0 PR, although yes PR flows within sites, you won't see the full benefit like you would if your link...
I've had a similar problem with my site, but sometime later the links appeared back in my site explorer.
So hopefully they will appear there soon.
Unfortunately I haven't discovered the exact reason, but i've noticed Google do it on occasions too.
Thats strange, have you made any major changes to your home page recently or noticed any traffic coming from places that it doesn't normally come from?
A page on my site disapeared from Yahoo the other day, then 3 days later it was back .. :S
