I tried to install a WordPress blog the other day but I cant figure out why it keeps asking me for ftp information if I'm trying to do it through my cpanel file manager uploader.

Most of the cpanel have autoinstaller for Wordperss. If you don't have then you can update it via FTP like filezilla. First of all you need to config the FTP client and connect to your server then download wordpress from its official website and upload it.
