Why are people hiding their tracking links?

When people post their tracking links, they usually mask the domain name, even if it's used for tracking only and no other offers are running on that domain.

This is an example from CPV Lab:
http://hiddendomain.com/tracking/base.php?c=7&key=4149d4fbb15dca5e0fcf0bd62a21d2a0&keyword={keyword}&ad={AdId}&query={QueryString}&match={MatchType}

What are the reasons to do this?

Thanks.

Hey,

actually no one hide his domain, they just use two different domains. One for Tracking and one for the landingpages.

It's easier for maintence to use two different domains.

Hey Mr. T, thanks for the reply. What I actually had in mind is this (sorry, I set the question a bit awkwardly):

When I see various tutorials about setting up trackers (CPV Lab, Voluum, etc.), people hide their domains used for tracking.

If the full domain is like this:
http://realtrackingdomain.com/tracking/base.php?c=7&key=4149d4fbb15dca5e0fcf0bd62a21d2a0& keyword={keyword}&ad={AdId}&query={QueryString}&ma tch={MatchType}

People would change it to this, when showing in publicly:
http://xxxxxx.com/tracking/base.php?c=7&key=4149d4fbb15dca5e0fcf0bd62a21d2a0& keyword={keyword}&ad={AdId}&query={QueryString}&ma tch={MatchType}

So if I have a problem with my tracking, for example, and come to forums to ask for help, I'm not sure, if I should post my full domain or "hide" it. The domain I use for tracking is for tracking only and I don't run any other websites or offers on that domain.

Thanks!

Hey,

ok now I know what you meant, if you give your tracking link to the public, everyone sees your domain.
I wouldn't recommend you to do this, but you could send your link to specific people.

But the main point that everyone mask ther domain is that they just don't want to get their campaings ripped.

If you have a general Tracking problem, just try to descripe it as detailed as possible.
