When you apply to most any network today, the approval process will include a verification phone call. You need to do everything you can to be available for that call, as well as any Skype chats, emails, or texting.
During any of these communications it is extremely important to communicate clearly. You must also be prepared to be as honest and up front as you can. They may ask questions about how you plan to promote their offers, what your experience level is, whether or not you are already approved at other networks, etc.
Keep in mind, as much as 50% of ad revenues are swallowed up by fraud in the industry and these networks are on the front lines of this issue. This is why they interview applicants. They simply want to confirm through their communications with you that you will make every effort to follow their policies, the policies their advertisers attach to each offer, and that you will scrub your traffic for bots and fraudulent traffic.
This is a business, you need to learn to have a business posture and demeanor, and it must come across to the network reps you communicate with that you intend to follow policies, have a reasonable ad budget, and you are looking to work with them as a professional in the industry.
