I wanted to write an update today on many of the sales tax issues we are facing. Beth Kirsch, at Revenews, did such a great post that I'll just sent you over there for more detailed info on the status of the CA and Maryland bills.

=============================

Maryland is trying to railroad an affiliate sales tax bill through and it could be approved as early as today or tomorrow. We missed the chance to do much about this one. :-(

If you are a Maryland affiliate time is of the essence. Shawn has details on what you need to do! Maryland Affiliates - Fight Senate Bill 1071 Today!

The CA vote in the assembly was postponed from April 13th until April 27th, giving us additional lobby time. It's EXTREMELY important we get them to vote no. Beth has action steps and more info. She also says it's time we ALL work together to try to stop these laws instead of having such fractured and independent efforts.

Last week a bunch of industry leading affiliates and affiliate managers stormed the California capital and had meetings with numerous legislators to try to educate them about our industry and get them to oppose AB 178. Karen Garcia has a detailed report: "AB 178 Lobby Day".

Amazon announced that if the sales tax bill in Hawaii passes they will be dropping Hawaii affiliates. A local news story about the Maryland tax bill reported Amazon said they will also drop Maryland affiliates if the vote turns out to be yes there. I heard a rumor that Amazon said they would drop affiliates in every state that passes a tax bill. I can't imagine them dropping all California affiliates and just hope CA kills AB 178 so we don't have to find out!
