You need to check 2 things, one is the available RAM and the second is the raw Disk IO speed. These are essential for you site to work smoothly and with least amount of lag.

There are 10 Golden rules of Hosting

    Break them at your peril!

More than 50% of site problems are caused by poor choice of hosts

If you are using WordPress then you'll need Linux based hosting & if you are new to hosting then
you're better off with a host that will provide you with CPanel & Fully Managed Services

    - this might cost you a little bit extra per month but it's worth it for ease of
    operation & after care.

NOT ALL HOSTING SERVICES ARE THE SAME, SO PICK CAREFULLY

MORE MONEY DOESN'T NECESSARILY MEAN BETTER HOSTING

There are 10 Golden rules for hosting:

1 NEVER USE shared/reseller hosting - this will almost certainly cause you problems
especially during product launches or at HIGH TRAFFIC times - low cost hosts usually THROTTLE traffic
to maintain quality of service even if you have an "unlimited Traffic" deal.

You are also much more likely to have down times on shared or reseller accounts as
other people on the same server may have issues that will affect you.

Sites on shared/reseller accounts are much more likely to be less secure as most low budget webmasters
don't understand security. These security holes are a big risk to you.

    2. Host in the country where most of your traffic is - doing anything else will cause you loss of
ranking & speed issues. (unless you are using services like Cloudflare or very fast hosts with rapid peering agreements))

    3. Before you choose your host, Google their reputation & rating with "hostname review" "hostname problems"

    4. Unless you know how to operate, update & secure servers ALWAYS go with a fully managed solution

    5. Pick hosts with automated backups - you never know when you'll need it

    6. More expensive does NOT mean Faster - this is down to the hosts peering arrangements & hardware

    7. VPS or Cloud VPS hosting are ideal for most small to medium web enterprises

    8. Start small & scale up - all hosts have scaling built in - with VPS & Cloud accounts it's only a click
    of a mouse to upgrade.

    9. Do a ping test to check the hosts response time

    Pingdom Tools

    Do a server location check:

Locate IP Address Lookup Show on Map City of the IP 199.119.101.8

    10. Contact the host's support or helpdesk see how fast they answer at different hours of day or night.

While selecting a hosting plan for your e commerce website you should take care of following terms:
Up time of hosting service: It should be more than 99%
Account Capacity: It should not be a shared hosting. (You may use VPS or dedicated).
