How does retargeting works

i got some questions about retargeting.I have surfed other sites such as shopping,travelling,etc, I saw banners of the particular items that i have browsed through kept coming out. I know that my computer stored the cookie but how do I add in the banner images? I can't possibly add in all the banner images for all the countries and items since there are visitors looking at many different country? I am currently looking at adroll after researching. Just wanna know is there any auto generated banners that will pop up after the visitor have surfed that particular place?

Yes as soon as you entere a page where a retargeting pixel is placed you get cookied and are with a custom audience which can be used to be advertised to. Now you create a campaign using these audience and add your own banners to that campaign.
