The best way for anyone and everyone to understand this business is to do this business. Setting on the sidelines and reading is fine, but you will never acquire the full perspective nor understand the subtle nuances of this industry until you are actively running campaigns.

Create a plan, a schedule, and a budget. Join a few networks, select a vertical, select a tracker, and select a traffic source. Spend a couple of months mastering them and then you will begin understanding of this industry.
