It is a bit to short to define how to do e-mail marketing. It is not that basic, i will admit after learning how to do it, it might seem like it. But it takes experience and it takes knowledge in your list.
Aha :). There are no big SMTP's that will let you send to single opt-in unless you get very low complain rate and your OR is off the roof.
So i would recommend using one of the many other solution providers there is :).
Hello Travis.
Are you doing permission marketing which some call spam? Or do you have a webshop/project where you are trying to optimize income on already signed up users.
Cheapest or best way? You can find thousands of solutions whom will send your e-mails cheap, but ineffective. So do you want to pay for getting the best you can get or settle? Also do you know how good your data is, meaning average OR (Open rate), spam, bounces and so furth?
If your data hasn't...
Sadly there aren't to many ways around them. But there is the short term and long term way to do it. But non of them are safe from not being hit by spam cops and what not.
Don't get me started on this ;). Spam rules are bs, and should be more regulated in order to not harm serious marketeers, and harder on those who actually do spam. But they just hit everybody on the same level, and makes it almost impossible to do business this way these days.

I did it in my earlier days with FB traffic, and it almost broke even with the...
Getting the opt-in is always important whether it's single or double opt-in, and you are correct that a catching subject line will always generate a better OR than "We are sending you this mail because we want you to" sorta thing.
Overall quality with e-mail marketing is not that easy as you...
E-mail marketing is doing as great as ever. As David mentions it takes alittle more to hit the inbox but if your patient, and good at what you do. You will get a great reputation in no time.
It's all about making sure not to trigger spam 'cops' which sadly has to much power, and they will ban...
