As far as I know there is no hidden fees regarding that service, although I recommend you to check their T.O.S. and ask usage limits, like CPU, RAM I/O etc... Also you can see many bad reviews about HostGator lately, so I personally don't really recommend them.
I guess there was some issue at Pingdom, as the 60 second result is awful. If you have a limited knowledge, I would strongly recommend a fully managed VPS with cPanel, as without any technical knowledge, you can find useful articles if you would like to change settings for example.
Any specification requirements? For example if you need cPanel, it costs ~$12.00 USD / month, for it you need a VPS which has min. 20 GB space and 1 GB RAM. These server costs around $16.00 USD, but of course much based on if it has SSD, what is the port speed etc... so you would help us a lot...
If you can afford than yes, it has many advantages, performance, quality, security, full control over your account. I would recommend cPanel and you can manage everything with a few clicks.
