Forums are great, Blogs are good too, however I only look for dofollow blogs. Because if their all nofollow like wordpress by default then it's not helping you get a better pagerank.

I think every website needs a blog. People do not understand their website needs to be dynamic and just not sitting their. Their are a couple different platforms out their. Wordpress seems to have more of a application open source hot spot. I recommend wordpress
