Wow hadn't heard about OfficeWeb...great move by microsoft. They have the money to pump into bing, windows 7 and ms office simultaneously. So I agree that it will be interesting to see what happens over the next few years. Things could change drastically soon.
This reminds me that I need to get around to beefing up the content on my thin affiliate sites. It would be nice to get some Google love instead of being stuck with just bing & yahoo traffic. I have other sites that are almost 100% affiliate content, basically a big catalog of 1 merchant's...
Yes I hate popover scripts too, but they have a place on many affiliate sites. What better way to draw attention to your e-mail list hook? minstrel would you prefer just using bright colors to effectively draw the eye where you want instead?
Yes many internet marketers are guilty of #4. It is only natural to build homepage links as they are the easiest to attain. Plus many people like to use the extra weight of their homepage to be able to target a competitive phrase. So they get caught up in that battle.
Thanks for that post Linda. I was not aware of this update with squidoo. My existing lenses with 9+ links are all doing fine. I'll have to keep this number in mind when I submit new lenses.
I mostly rely on the Google AdWords keyword tool. KeywordDiscovery & KeywordCountry are probably the best paid tools. Another good source of keywords is your own website stats over time. See where you naturally rank and take advantage of those. Build some links around those unconsidered...
I agree, I am 100% behind MicroSoft as they try to gain some ground with Bing. Google has been too dominant for too long. Good competition does keep everyone honest and it helps progression.
It's good to see bing doing well. I for one am hoping they continue their progress and become a serious competitor for Google. Google has dominated for too long which has created some problems for the seo community. If search market share was more balanced there would be more business...
In time I could see them being more regulated. We have already seen the European Union make moves to control Google somewhat with forcing them to limit their user data retention lengths.
Squidoo is NOT nofollow. Perhaps you were previewing an unpublished lens or read some rumor. I just double checked and my lenses are still dofollow. Although they are dofollow, they are not as loved by Google as they once were. They still help a website's rankings but the lenses themselves...
Personally I prefer to keep my sites separate. Interlinking your own sites does seem like you are gaming the system a bit. If you get carried away I'm sure you would get penalized. If you're going to create mini-sites, I would keep them separate, unless you are hosting them on web 2.0 type...
Personally I only use broad match if I am doing broad research such as picking a niche or examining website keyword themes. When picking a specific keyword or keywords to optimize a page or article, I think you should almost always use exact match. Using broad match may be misleading unless...
Yes 95% is very high and should be addressed. You should take a look at your site as a whole and decide if it is worth clicking into. As Niche mentioned, dig into your stats and compare the bounce rates for different pages, keywords, referring pages, country, etc. Either your website does not...
I have always used my real name without a problem. Then again I don't own my property. Once I do, I might not want to share that address so willingly. With the internet it is tough to keep all that stuff private though. If people want to find out bad enough they usually will.
Yes it totally depends on what niche you want to target. For the most success you should pick topics that you already know something about and have a genuine interest in. Try joining networks like cj.com and see what affiliate programs are available. Also find related websites and blogs and...
I don't recommend a splash page as they are horrible for SEO. Perhaps you are actually looking for a pop-over script? I'm sure there are lots of those to choose from.
