Yeah, you are right, a design can't be universally accepted. If a client is ignorant then a duty of a pro web designer is to convince him and give him the market standard.
It is a new version of Google search engine algo. Google changes/upgrade its search engine algorithms after few years and it is generally a huge change that has a tremendous impact on Google ranking. The changed algorithm that is expected to roll very recently is being called Google caffeine.
Let Google caffeine running then you will get suggestions all over SEO blogs and forums what you need to know further abour SEO strategy in 2010.

I am reading quite a few post about link exchange etc, etc. What I know that Google pays very negligible value to reciprocal link exchange.
