Have you ever done much looking at Google search results? While quality content is extremely important it has little impact on SEO. Google's latest algo change has eliminated a bunch of garbage but it still presents a lot of poor content.

Google Algo Change How Much Will Speed Matter
Google has been discussing since at least June of 2009 that the loading speed of your website matter. Now, they have included it in their algorithm.

While i agree with what you said here I would take it a step further. Directories are not a good source of Do Follow backlinks because most of them are not human edited. If a site is not edited the links are useless.
I have never heard of any differences in the Google algo as it relates to different countries. It just would not make any sense to do it that way. But then...
I am a small business and I have not experienced any problems with Google. In fact Google seems to really like our SEO site. I have never seen big sites given favor over the little guy and all things are equal which they seldom are.
If the directories are not human edited then they are of no SEO value. Very few of these are free. Also they tend to require that your businesses name appear in the home pages page title which isn't very good for SEO unless the name includes your primary keyword phrase.
This is by far the best source of information for those new to SEO and internet marketing. I find myself referencing this document on forums all the time.
That information fluctuates all the time. Google does not show all the links that it knows about your site here. Sometimes it even throws in a few No Follow links. Just start building links on high pr social sites and you will do well. 8 links is nothing.
I came up this concept in late 2008. I began implementing it in January of 09. Now, I have been sharing this idea all over the forums and social sites so I thought that I would share it here as well.
